CA$200.00

Dimensions: 14 x 11
Inspiration:: The inspiration for "Keys to the Night" came from a place of spontaneity and curiosity. I allowed each component to guide the creation process, resulting in an artwork that reflects the things that keep me up at night. A unique aspect of this project was the use of colour, which played a crucial role in bringing the various elements together. This puzzle-like artmaking compels me to work at it until completion. It keeps me awake until way into the middle of the night.
Materials and Process:: Collage: paper and glue
Accompanying music/song and artist: : The Sound of Silence
Urban Fragments
Urban Fragments

CA$200.00

Dimensions: 14 x 11
Inspiration:: The abstract qualities of "Urban Fragments" are seen in its fragmented nature and the non-representational use of shapes and colours, offering a sense of disorientation and discovery. The intricate assembly process is akin to piecing together a complex puzzle, reflecting my inspiration and intent to merge these diverse visual elements harmoniously. Making this work keeps me up late into the night when I can think and hear the muse. The abstract nature of the composition offers viewers multiple opportunities to explore the varied textures and intricate details woven into the urban tapestry.
Materials and Process:: Collage: paper and glue

Voices in my Head

Karen Whyte
CA$850.00

Dimensions: 22 x 30 x 1
Inspiration:: I went through a few nights of restless sleep a while ago. Voices, images and complicated dreams kept me just above much needed sleep. I get up on nights like these, writing in my journal to try to make sense of the cacophony of noise in my head. Later that morning I started a new painting blocking in spaces of colour and overlaying with whatever marks came to mind. This painting came close to capturing the confusion of nonsense and emotion that had kept me awake.
Materials and Process:: Oil on gessoed paper
Accompanying music/song and artist: : Crooked Old World by Leeroy Stagger

CA$850.00

Dimensions: 22 x 30 x 1
Inspiration:: After one particularly dream filled night, I awoke with a very clear memory of one of the dreams. My dreams are generally not very subtle. This time, I was busy rearranging the furniture in my studio apartment. It took thought and effort, and many tries to fit all that was important in the space available. Rearranging furniture is a lot like re-examining and shifting my attitudes towards the realities of the world and my place in it.
Materials and Process:: Oil on gessoed paper.
Accompanying music/song and artist: : After the Gold Rush (Young) performed by KD Lang
Starburst
Starburst
Kristen Carleton
CA$2,200.00

Dimensions: 40 x 40 x 1.5
Inspiration:: 'Starburst' was created over two sessions that occurred between the hours of 11pm to 4am. I often only paint in late hours of evening as I feel awakened by wonder and the silence of the night. The universe is one of my biggest inspirations in the imagery that I create, which then leads to seeing all kinds of other relational patterns found in nature as the paint momentum unfurls. In 'Starburst', I see a giant hummingbird buzzing away (right half). Here, my creative imagination whirs and is inspired by night owl-syndrome where I can hear my own thoughts, feelings, and draw upon excitement to invent
Materials and Process:: Acrylic on stretched canvas. (Wet-on- wet, marbling, dry brush, individually applied dots [pointillism], palimpsest [removal of layering for color transparencies using Q-Tips])
Accompanying music/song and artist: : "Children" by Landhouse (on Spotify)
Spright
Spright
Kristen Carleton
CA$2,200.00

Dimensions: 40 x 40 x 1.5
Inspiration:: Northern Lights Inspired the making of 'Spright' and it was created in one session between the hours of midnight to 6am. I began with marbling colors, then dipping one large square brush into each color to individually spackle transparent layers with my other hand frisking brush hairs in a vigorous motion using consistent force. Just as each layer would dry and my satisfaction grew, I continued until one final red dot unified this piece. This is an action painting that required much focus on posture, stability, breath, dexterity, and refocusing of eyesight as the night light shifted.
Materials and Process:: Acrylic on stretched canvas. (Wet-on-wet, 29 layers of color [27 colors used]).
Accompanying music/song and artist: : "Inside this Dream", by Andrea Marie (on Spotify)
Coral
Coral
Kristen Carleton
CA$950.00

Dimensions: 24 x 36 x 1.5
Inspiration:: 'Coral' was inspired by reflections of my artist identity and my art therapist role. The artist identity section of the painting started as a pool of wet within wet colored expanding droplets on the left side, and the art therapist identity with the reversal of the same applied colors on the right. I contemplated the idea of mirrors, and how these roles in my life have spatial boundaries yet rely on intersection points where they inform and permeate each other. Visually, I see underwater coral, mirroring galaxies of the universe, as my own interdimensionalities occur somewhere in between.
Materials and Process:: Acrylic on stretched canvas. (Wet-on-wet drops with Q-Tips, push and pull with palette knife, transfer paint with sm. sq. brush, create patterned balance with dots using opposite end of brush.
Accompanying music/song and artist: : "Light", by Dr. Toast (on Spotify)

CA$400.00

Dimensions: 30 x 40 x 1.5
Inspiration:: This was such a fun painting to do, mostly because I have ADHD. At night when I try to sleep, and even when I'm sleeping my mind is racing through everything and anything. Sometimes my mind is so busy I am awakened by endless thoughts, and there are nights when I can't sleep at all. Overall my sleepless and sleeping nights are full of exciting thoughts and plans rather than worrisome ones. I think this painting is a pretty good representation of how I feel and how tickled I am by this occurrence.
Materials and Process:: Acrylic on canvas

Kim Money
CA$1,300.00

Dimensions: 36 x 36 x 1.5
Inspiration:: Foggy conversations I have with myself when sleep eludes me: What time is it? 2:30am! Too early to get up. I need a dog. Did I pay the hydro bill? I probably forgot. Count sheep relax your feet..oh that rhymes! A dog would bother my crows. I need to fix the world for my grandchildren..recycling probably isn't enough. Will there be forests? Will there be hydro bills? I wont be there to protect them..panic! What time is it now? Time for your tears and maybe some flowers? I need to eat better..how much protein is in a fruit fly? How much was the hydro bill? Just get up and pay it.
Materials and Process:: Acrylic and mixed media on cradled board

Meticulously shaped and sanded, it reflects a perfect blend of ancient roots and the modern world. Love and hate. Adorned with delicate gold leaf and hand-painted gold pigments, the piece is mounted on a beautiful base of aromatic red cedar. With distinct designs on both sides, titled "Ray of Light" it embodies the contrast between past and present, life and death and all in between.

CA$200.00

Dimensions: 20 x 20 x 1.5

Edward Peck
CA$800.00

Dimensions: 24 x 36 x 1.5
Inspiration:: I Feel the Sudden Rains Come Down is part of the Arrangements series and explores the beauty of what is discarded through the recomposition of spent bouquets. This piece is more than just a depiction of flowers; it's an evocative celebration of life's ever-changing moments, a reminder of the quiet, often overlooked beauty in every phase of existence, a testament to the cycles of life and the profound beauty within them. I'm fascinated by the natural world and its transient beauty, as deep into a sleepless night, this image slowly emerges from the darkness.
Materials and Process:: Scanography Sublimation Print on Aluminum Floating Frame
Accompanying music/song and artist: : Who Will Stop the Rain, Creedence Clearwater Revival

CA$800.00

Dimensions: 24 x 36 x 1.5
Inspiration:: 2120 South Michigan Avenue is part of the Arrangements series and explores the beauty of what is discarded through the recomposition of spent bouquets. I am kept up at night with the emerging beauty found in the aging process of flowers. There is a haunting beauty in the withered, a poignant reminder that even in decline, there remains a resonance of grace and allure. In the darkness and the flickering light, the composition emerges slowly from the depth of night, the music from 2120 South Michigan Avenue filling the room.
Materials and Process:: Scanograph Sublimation Print on an Aluminum Floating Frame

CA$250.00

Dimensions: 10 x 10 x 1
Inspiration:: A series on mental health through menopause. In the shyness of a soft evening, I’m folding away from you – feeling blue on the inside. I’m burning away from you – scorching on the outside. Hand reaching back to yours – “I’ll be alright,” I say. “We’ll be alright".

Angela Menzies
CA$175.00

Dimensions: 8 x 8 x 1
Inspiration:: A series on mental health through menopause. The first 15 lbs were kind of fun, weren’t they? Midnight cravings for conspiratorial ice cream. You gained 15 lbs too. We were in it together. But this is now. Unfathomably, you peacefully snore as I lay awake… gaining. Gaining burdens, curse words, and lbs. I become righteously unhinged as I bargain for all the things I want back… my dead dog… my thinner body… my fucking eyebrows! There is a reckoning in the midnight hour – a new estimation of myself. I don’t know this new “me” yet, but I’m determined to love her.
Materials and Process:: Acrylic on wood tondo

Life of The Party in the Midnight Hour : Fuck This Shit #3
Angela Menzies
CA$500.00

Dimensions: 14 x 14 x 1
Inspiration:: A series on mental health through menopause. Life of the party. It’s a different kind of party now though, isn’t it? University parties gave way to children’s birthday parties – all candy sprinkles and glitter – then gave way again to quiet evenings on the couch with a fat-bellied puppy in my lap. Netflix always asking, “Are you still watching?” And now, in sleepless midnight hours, stolen moments to stand at my easel – dripping paint on an old favourite dog at my feet. And I think, this is the life.
Materials and Process:: Acrylic on wood tondo
Accompanying music/song and artist: : Mick Flannery “I’ll Be Out Here”
